Her serious illness is the concern of many folks in her home community, and a group of them have organized a fund drive during the next 10 days to help defray Diane’s mounting hospital and medical expenses.

Dorchester residents are joining hands with Curtiss folks, mindful of affection for their centennial queen. So are Diane’s fellow students of Abbotsford High School and other residents of the Abbotsford community.

Abbotsford students have been busy making 200 posters and selling tickets for a benefit dance to be held at Dorchester Memorial Hall November 8, with all the proceeds going into Diane’s medical fund.

Curtiss residents, with high hopes that Diane ultimately will be “all right,” have started their contributions and are appealing to their neighboring community residents to do likewise.

The Royteks have lost two of their four children. A son, about 7 years of age, was fatally injured in an automobile accident 10 years ago, and a daughter died at the age of 6 months. In addition to Diane, they have a daughter who is 10 years of age.
