Mary Gwiazda (Cemetery listing says Marya), 90, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls on Saturday evening, November 10, 1973. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 14, 10:00 a.m. at Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Thorp. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Gwiazda, Mary (13 Sep 1883 – 11(?) Nov 1973)

Mary Gwiazda, 90, passed away of a lingering illness and old age infirmities at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Chippewa Falls. Funeral services were held at the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Thorp, on Wednesday, November 14, 1973. Very Rev. Andrew Kist officiated at the ten a.m. service. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Pallbearers were Michael, Brian and Duane Gwiazda, Clarence and Bernard Przybylski, and James Malecki, all grandsons.

Mary Figura was born September 13, 1883 in Austria. On September 24, 1906 she was united in marriage to Nick Gwiazda in Austria. They came to the states in March of 1913, living in the town of Roosevelt until 1949, when they moved to Lublin. On July 31, 1973 she went to the Gilman Nursing Home.

Surviving are her husband, Nick Gwiazda; three sons, John of Stockton, Calif., Walter and Mike of Thorp; three daughters, Mary Przybylski, Estelle Berg, and Katherine Parker of Chippewa Falls; four sisters, Cecilia Hoban, Lublin, Katherine Troz, Teffie Oryscaczyn and Pearl Kossak of Thorp; 15 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Anna Figura; two daughters, Sophie Gwiazda and Anna Sawyer; two brothers, John and Mike Figura.
