Kapfer, Elmer O. (13 December 1903 – 26 February 1980)

A longtime Town of Washburn farmer, Elmer O. Kapfer, 76, passed away in the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen on Tuesday, February 26.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, February 29, from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville with burial made in the city cemetery. The Revs. William Noble and Ralph Schram officiated. Musical selections offered by Margaret Knoop and Iris Musil were “How Great Thou Art” and “Sweet Hour of Prayer.” The pallbearers were Gordon, Todd, Jay and Larry Meddaugh and John and Clearance Reinhart.

Mr. Kapfer was born on December 13, 1903, in Anamoose, N.D., to Christian and Nellie (Wagner) Kapfer. As a young boy, he moved to Wisconsin with his parents and received his education in Neillsville and Town of Pine Valley schools. He then worked on the home farm until his marriage to Eunice Waterman in January 19, 1927, Neillsville ceremonies. The couple farmed in the Town of Levis and later in the Town of Washburn for many years. He operated his present farm from 1943 until retiring in 1976. He was a Town of Washburn board member for many years and also served on the Cannonville School’s board. Approximately two years ago, he became a resident of the county’s health care center.

Surviving him, besides his wife, is one son, Leon, Janesville; one sister, Mrs. Edward (Mildred) Timmler, Marshfield; two brothers, Albert of West Bend and Lee of Neillsville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister, Vera.

Attending the services from out-of-town were Mr./Mrs. Bill Kapfer and Mr./Mrs. Dick Kapfer, all of Rockford, Ill.; Rev./Mrs. Ralph Schram & family and Mr./Mrs. Bobby Kapfer, of Black River Falls; Mr./Mrs. Lawrence VandeBerg, Mr./Mrs. Ed Timmler, Mr./Mrs. Gary Braun and Mr./Mrs. Larry Shortess, all of Marshfield; Mrs. Allen Kleinhaus, Mrs. Terry Schwab, Albert Kapfer, Dale Timmler and Mrs. Lee Schwab, of West bend; and Ed Krueger and Kenneth Kapfer, both of Wis. Rapids; Mr./Mrs. Don Lindou, Chili; and Michael, Jerry and Chad Kapfer, all of Stoughton.
