Olson, Arthur (27 December 1901 – 11 April 1980)
A former Neillsville High School biology teacher and basketball and football
coach, Arthur Olson, 78, died Friday, April 11, in St. Agnes Hospital, Fond du
Lac. Olson was buried at Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery, Eau Claire, following
private services on Saturday, April 12, from the Candlish Funeral Chapel in Fond
du Lac, with the Rev. Lloyd G. DeJong officiating.
Olson was born on December 27, 1901, in Eau Claire to Edward and Andrea (Hanson)
Olson. On September 1, 1924, he married Emma F. Gluch in Neillsville ceremonies.
He earned his bachelor’s degree at Carroll College and his master’s degree at
the University of Michigan. He taught and coached in the Neillsville, Rice Lake
and Wausau school systems. Olson was also named to the Athletic Hall of Fame at
UW-Eau Claire.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter Mrs. Andrea Joss, Fond du Lac; one son
William M. Olson, Minneapolis; one brother, Emmett, Newark Ohio, one sister,
Evelyn J. Olson, Milwaukee; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
