Scherer, Pete (24 May 1887 – 2 April 1980)
Peter Scherr, 92, Greenwood, died Wednesday morning, April 2, in Memorial Home
in Neillsville. He was born May 24, 1887, in Marshfield to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob
Scherr. He received his early education in Marshfield, completing it in Chicago.
He was employed by Conner Lumber Company in Stratford and for the Soo Line and
North Western Railroads before his marriage, May 30, 1913, to Josephine Falkner
at Holy Family Catholic Church, Lima, Richland County. Scherr operated a cement
and concrete business here for 20 years and also was section foeman for
Fairchild Northwestern Railroad. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church
and National Society of Foresters. The Scherr’s observed their 60th wedding
anniversary in May 1973.
Surviving him are his wife, one son, Martin, Wausau, a daughter, Mrs. Florian
(Marcella) Herrick, Colby, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
A prayer service was held Saturday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood.
The Rev. J.J. Burggraf of Spencer officiated. A memorial mass was held Monday,
April 7, at St. Mary’s Church in Greenwood. Pallbearers were Ronald Goetsch,
Bernard Stelter, Anton Hengst, Wilbur Black, Jerry Ohlinger and Jim Schopf.
Burial was made at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield. The Rinka Funeral
Home of Greenwood was in charge of arrangements.
