Schultz, Guy E. (18 March 1899 – 4 April 1980)

A longtime Town of Levis resident, Guy E. Schultz, passed away in Neillsville Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, April 4, following a brief illness. Schultz, Rt. 2 Neillsville, was 81 at the time of his death and had lived since 1977 with his son, due to failing health.

Schultz was born on March 18, 1899, in the Town of Levis to George and Mary (Leopold) Schultz. He received his education in the Dells Dam School and then farmed in the Town of Levis. On December 15, 1923, he married Vera Kapfer in Neillsville ceremonies. He later worked hauling gravel for road construction, retiring from Plautz Brothers Construction in 1965. He was known in the area as an avid horse lover and traded the animals for many years.

Surviving him is one son, Dale “Gabby” Schultz, Neillsville, one sister, Mrs. Tony (Hazel) Hantke, Neillsville, and two step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1962, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services were held from the Gesche Funeral Home on early Monday afternoon, April 7, with the Rev. Gary Clark of the Neillsville United Church of Christ officiating. Vanita Volkert and Mae Peters offered music for the services. Burial was made in the Dells Dam Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Max, Robert, Bill and Richard Kapfer, Douglas Hantke and Dale Timmler.

Attending services from out of town were Mr./Mrs. Douglas Hantke & family, St. Paul, Mn.; Mr./Mrs. Loren Bertelsen, Madison; Mr./Mrs. Richard Kapfer & family, Belvidere, Ill.; Mr./Mrs. Bill Kapfer Rockford, Ill.; Mr./Mrs. Max Kapfer & son, Stoughton; Mr./Mrs. Bob Kapfer, Black River Falls; and Mr./Mrs. Lee Schaub and Mrs. Steven Hafermann, all of Kewaskum.

Also present were Barbara Kleinhaus, Campbellsport; Beverly Lautch, Kenosha; Jim Kapfer and Mr./Mrs. Dale Timmler, of West Bend; Mr./Mrs. Bernard Abend, Osseo; Mr/Mrs. Ed Timmler, Mr./Mrs. Larry Shortess and Mr./Mrs. Gary Braun, of Marshfield. Ohers came from Merrillan, Marshfield, Granton, Neillsville and Winona, Mn.
