Grap, Martha E. (13 September 1878 – 2 May 1980)
A well-known area Globe woman, Martha E. Grap, passed away in Neillsville
Memorial Home on Friday, May 2, after a brief illness. Mrs. Grap was 101 years
old at the time of her death. She had remained very active in her later years.
Living alone and attending church and area social functions. She was feted at a
community and family celebration for her 100th birthday.
The deceased was born on September 13, 1878, in the Town of Weston to Frederick
and Emilie (Klueckman) Kalsow. She received her education in the Town of Weston
and in the Fairview School and then worked for various families in the
Neillsville area before her marriage to Johann F. Grap on October 12, 1899. The
couple farmed in the Town of Weston, retiring in 1947. She was a member of the
Immanuel congregation and that church’s Ladies’ Aid.
Surviving Mrs. Grap are four sons, Frederick of Neillsville, Walter and Carl of
Milwaukee and Marvin of Rockford, Ill.; eleven grandchildren; 39
great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in
death by her husband (1963); two sons, Louis and Paul; and three brothers.
Funeral services were held on early Monday afternoon from Immanuel Lutheran
Church in Globe with the Ref. Ralph Stuebs officiating. Burial was made in the
church cemetery and the Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
