Feldman, Arthur A. “Art” (29 March 1936 – 26 November 2021) With Flag

Arthur “Art” A. Feldman, age 85, of Owen, passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021, at the Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.

Art was born on March 29, 1936, the son Martin and Louise (Bentz) Feldman in Wonewoc. He graduated from Wonewoc High School in 1953, received a B.S. degree from UW-Stevens Point in 1957, a master’s in physical education from U. W. La Crosse in 1965 and his Administrative Certification from Winona State in 1977. Art entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1959-61. On August 8, 1964, he was united in marriage to Alice Turnquist at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Greenwood.

Art taught Physical Education, English, Geography and Health at Owen-Withee from1957-77.
He became principal of Owen-Withee Junior High from 1977-79 and principal of Owen-Withee Elementary School from 1979-1994. Art was the Athletic Director from 1961-79 and part time from 1994-2001, He was the Cloverbelt Commissioner from 1979-1990. Art received many accolades during his professional career, including Wisconsin C.A.S.E. Award winner in 1981, National Distinguished Principal in 1984, Wisconsin Elementary Principal of the Year in 1984 and UW- Stevens Point Outstanding Practitioner in 1985. He also was on numerous professional organizations, active on many assorted professional committees and coached football, basketball, wrestling, baseball and track at various levels.

Art also served his community as a member of the Owen City Council for three years, Owen-Withee Lions Club for 25 years, board member for Thrivent Financial for four years, President of Lutheran Brotherhood Service Club 8509 for 14 years, Wisconsin Foster Parents-of-the-Year in 1993 and a member and past council president of Nazareth Lutheran Church.

Art is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice; three children: Sarah (Jodi Timmerman) Feldman of Stoughton and their daughter, Rachel Timmerman of Minneapolis, MN, Shelly (Dave) Schneider of Marshfield and their children, Evan Schneider of St. Louis Park, MN, Erin Schneider of Waukesha and Taylor Schneider of Waukesha and James (Mindy) Feldman of Jefferson. He is further survived by his brother, Sam (Carol) Feldman of DeForest and a sister-in-law, Pat Feldman of Windsor; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Verna (Vin) Hayes, Beverly (Frank) Drinkwater, Bill Feldman and Sam (Carol) Feldman.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Withee at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Elizabeth Bier will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the service. Interment to follow at the church cemetery.
