Gentemann, Katharina (19 June 1887 – 5 June 1980)

An Austrian native and resident of the Town of Levi for 60 years, Mrs. Katharina Gentemann, passed away at her Rt. 1 Neillsville home on the afternoon of June 5. Mrs. Gentemann was 92 at the time of her death.

The deceased was born on June 19, 1887, in Stryj, Austria, to Valentine and Elizabeth Unterschuetz. After receiving her education, she worked as a dressmaker and owned and operated a dress shop. On October 1, 1904, she married Henry Gentemann.

The couple then moved to the United States. Living in Chicago until 1920. At that time, they moved to the Town of Levis, where they farmed until the death of Mr. Gentemann in April 1952. Mrs. Gentemann continued to reside in the Town of Levis. She was a member of St. John’s congregation.

Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Herbert (Eleanor) Schoenherr of Neillsville and Elsie Neubecker of Kenosha; one sister, Ruth Werba, Coral Springs, Florida; seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death, besides her husband, by one daughter, four sisters and one brother.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon, June 9, from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville with the Rev. Norman Lindloff officiating. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were grandsons: Herbert Schoenherr, Jr., Edward Schoenherr, Richard Schoenherr, Daniel Neubecker, Paul Ampe and Gordon Ritter. The Gesche Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
