Durst, Mr. and Mrs. Walter (60 Years - 17 June 1980)
Numerous relatives and friends of Walter and Alma Durst gathered Sunday
afternoon, June 15, at the Neillsville American Legion Hall to help them
commemorate 60 years of wedded life.
The Dursts, 309 Oak St., Neillsville, celebrated with members of the original
wedding party – Walter’s brother, Alvin; Alma’s brother, Thone Karnitz; and
sister, Lilly (Karnitz) Wallace. They recalled a sunny June 17, 1920, when
Walter Durst took Alma Karnitz in marriage at the Karnitz farm in Pine Valley.
Walter and Alma had known each other since childhood when they attended German
school.
An anniversary buffet supper for 70 was preceded by several songs from Grandson
James Durst. An inspirational message by grandson-in-law, the Rev. William
McGraw, reminded them of events which were taking place some 60 years ago.
Celebrating the occasion were the Durst’s two sons, LaVern and Lewis; and
daughter, Marjorie (Blix); as well as a number of grandchildren and one
great-grandchild.
The event was enjoyed by the Dursts. Walter summed it up at the end of the
evening when he said, “Let’s have another one!”
