Tyler, Dwayne (Dewey) Leo (10 December 1936 – 1 December 2021) With Flag

Dwayne (Dewey) Leo Tyler, 84, of Rockford, IL passed away suddenly early Wednesday morning, December 1, 2021, in OSF Medical Center.

Dewey was born December 10, 1936 (along with his twin brother, Wayne) in the home of his parents, Ray & Louise (Elmhorst) Tyler in the town of Grant, Clark Co., WI. He graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 1954 and became employed as an estimator for Thompson & Abbott Construction Company. During this time, he served in the Naval Reserves, and he enjoyed playing church league basketball and baseball for his home church, Immanuel Lutheran. It was here in Walther League that he met the love of his life, Janet (Jan) Seehafer. They married August 7, 1960.

After their wedding trip, they immediately moved to Belvidere, IL fulfilling the "Call" to his wife, Jan, to teach in Immanuel Lutheran School. Dewey became employed at Belvedere Company U.S.A. initially working in various factory departments, ultimately serving as Vice President for the last 25 years of his 42 years there.

After retirement, he and Jan wintered in Green Valley, AZ where they enjoyed the warmth of being with family and making new friends.

Dewey was a most devoted husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and neighbor to many. Dewey was often seen mowing the many acres at his Belvidere church where he served in many capacities, committees, and bible-study groups. He served faithfully on boards for Immanuel Lutheran School and Rockford Lutheran High School. His greatest joy was serving as co-chairman on the building committee of Immanuel Lutheran's present church, and he was an avid Green Bay Packer and Chicago Cub fan.

Those who knew and loved him best saw strength in his gentleness and kindness.

Dewey continues to be loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Jan; their children, Troy (Marsha) Tyler of Riverview, FL; Treg Tyler of Roscoe, IL, and Tracy (Chanda) Tyler of Grand Junction, CO., grandchildren, Nathan Tyler, Daniel Tyler, Sarah (Chad) Tyler Larsen, and Samantha Tyler, all of Colorado, and four great-grandchildren, Micah, Levi, Lily, and Sadie Tyler and 3 step grandchildren and 5 step great-grandchildren; twin brother, Wayne (Sandra) Tyler of Albuquerque, NM; Donald Tyler of Phoenix, Arizona; loved nieces; and grand nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray Tyler and Louise (Elmhorst) Tyler, and sister-in-law, Ann Tyler.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday December 11, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1045 Belvidere Road, Belvidere, IL with a visitation from 9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. A memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Braun Campbell, Senior Pastor; Pastor Keith Richard, Associate Pastor; and Reverend Dr. Allan Buss, President of the Northern Illinois District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.

Immediately following the service, the internment of ashes will be in Highland Garden of Memories, Belvidere, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Immanuel Lutheran Church to establish the Dwayne L. Tyler Family Endowment fund.
