Gilbert J. Asselin, 81, died at his home in the town of Wilson, rural route 1, Stanley, on Monday, March 18, 1974.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 20, 1974 at Pleasant Valley Pentecostal Church, Stanley at 1:30 p.m., with Pastor Fred Shilts officiating. Burial was made in the East Thorp Cemetery.

Asselin, Gilbert J. (19 May 1892 – 18 Mar 1974)

Gilbert J. Asselin was born May 19, 1892 in the Town of Reseburg, Clark County.

He was the son of Jerry and Delila Asselin. Gilbert attended school at Reseburg Country School. Most of his life was spent as a building contractor.

On October 2, 1939 he was united in marriage to Lorrayne Lewallen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lewallen of Stanley, Wisconsin, at Stillwater, Minnesota.

They lived in the city of Thorp for 11 years, and then to their farm in the town of Worden (Clark Co.), where they farmed for 8 years. Then retiring, they moved back to Thorp, where they lived fo 16 years before moving to their present home south of Stanley.

To this union were born four children, Mrs. Violet Sylla, Esther, Mrs. Richard Rosemeyer, Jerry, all of Janesville, Wisconsin; Albert, at home.

Gilbert was baptized into the Pentecostal Church May 3, 1972. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three brothers, one sister, and one son-in-law, Ralph Sylla.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, 4 children, 9 grandchildren, 1 sister, Mrs. Delia Telford, 2 brothers, Edward and Layton Asselin of Thorp.

Gilbert passed away at his home March 18, 1974..

Funeral services were held from the Pleasant Valley Pentecostal Church. He was laid to rest in the East Thorp Cemetery.

Services were conducted by Pastor Fred Shilts.
