Smith, Mr./Mrs. Harry (Gold – 26 Jun 1974)
A special anniversary mass in Holy Family Catholic Church, Stanley, was offered
up by Father Kaiser at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, 1974 to begin the
celebration of the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Smith, where
the couple renewed their marriage vows. A grandson, Brian Shuk, served mass, and
the offertory was carried by two granddaughters, Janet Smith and Barbara Shuk.
The mixed choir, accompanied by Jan Okerglicki at the organ, sang appropriate
songs for the occasion.
Following services a dinner for the immediate family was held at the American
Legion Hall in Thorp at 12:00 p.m., and Open House from 2 to 5 p.m.
Kevin Shuk, the youngest grandchild, presented his grandparents with a yellow
rose corsage and a yellow rose boutonniere. Granddaughters, Janet Smith, Cynthia
Komarek, Joyce Smith, Dawn Forster, and Gloria Smith took charge of the guest
book, cutting of the anniversary cake and punch bowl.
The former Marion Catt and Harry Smith were married by Father Neises on June 26,
1924 in St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thorp. Their entire married life has
been spent in the Thorp and Stanley area.
They are the parents of four sons, Harold, St. Paul; Edward, Thorp; David,
Scottsdale, Arizona; and Rober, who passed away in November 1971; four
daughters, Marian Shuk, Stanley; Harriet Kitzerow, Minneapolis; Ruth Komarek,
Bartlett, Ill., and Carolyn Heffley, Chicago. David was unable to attend the
celebration.
Besies their eight children, they have thirty-four grandchildren and ten
great-grandchildren.
Guests from out of this area came from Grand Rapids, Mich., Chicago and
Bartlett, Ill., Milwaukee, Menomonee Falls, Cudahy, Green Bay, Woodruff,
Tomahawk, Wausau, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Eau Claire, Durand, Eau Galle, Minocqua
and Marshfield.
