(A brief rundown on Mattes Livestock 37th Anniversary Sale held on September 15,
16, 17, 1974)
185 horses were sold at our Sunday Sale. Door prize winners were Becky Bublitz
of Owen, $5.00, Mrs. Henry Novotny of Cadott and Dave Wilson of New Auburn, each
$10.00. A $25.00 savings bond was given to Don Burke of Spring Valley for being
the largest buyer, and also a bond for being the largest consigner.
On Monday’s sale 782 head of livestock passed through the sale ring. Door prize
winners were Mrs. Richard Shakal of Stanley, $5.0, Mr. Frank Gay of Withee and
Julie Burkhardt of Thorp, each $10.00. A $25.00 savings bond was awarded to
Rollie Shadick of Antigo, buyer for Green Bay Dressed Beef, as being the largest
buyer. John Leszewski of Thorp received the $25.00 bond for being the largest
consigner.
On Tuesday, the dairy and feeder sale brought 183 head of cattle to the market.
Door prize winner were Harold Mattes of Thorp, $5.00, Joe Hrdlicka of Chippewa
Falls and Ed Perko of Willard, each $10.00. $25.00 savings bond went to Mike
Arends of Blue Earth, Minnesota for being the largest buyer. Frank Borysiak of
Thorp received the bond for being the largest consigner.
The three day sale brought 1150 head of cattle, calves, pigs and horses totaling
$122,412.94 through the ring.
We would like to thank the buyers, consigners and most of all, the employees who
made our 37th Anniversary a success.
