A mock fire rescue at Memorial Hospital in Neillsville went awry early Thursday
causing some tearful eyes and coughing.
At 7 a.m. Thursday the Neillsville Volunteer Fire Department was called to the
mock rescue at the hospital and nursing home.
A smoke bomb, which was being used by the hospital personnel to simulate a fire,
was ignited in the boiler room, where the rescue was to take place, but the
smoke from it began pouring into Memorial Home.
Several residents had to be moved temporarily to other parts of the building and
some maintenance personnel reported ill effects from the smoke, foremen said.
