A thirteen year old resident of the Owen area has been honored by receiving an
invitation to the inaugural ceremony of Jimmy Carter and Walter Mondale, which
will be held on January 20, 1977. The youth, Neil Krarup, is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Kraru of Route 1, Owen.
Neil, a student in the seventh grade at Owen-Withee High School, became involved
in the Carter presidential campaign this past summer, when eh went in his idea
for a campaign slogan. His slogan was: “Jimmy and Fritz in ’76.”
In September he received a personal note from Jimmy Carter thanking him for his
support and his idea. The invitation was a result of Neil’s slogan.
“The Inaugural Committee request the honor of your presence and participation in
the Inauguration of Jimmy Carter as President of the United States of America
and Walter Mondale as Vice President of the United States of America on
Thursday, the twentieth of January, one thousand nine hundred and seventy seven
in the City of Washington.”
Although Neil does not plan to attend the ceremony in Washington, he is pleased
and excited about receiving the invitation which arrived on December 31, 1976, a
day before his 13th birthday on January 1, 1977.
