Williams, Oliver (13 October 1907 – 7 August 1980)
Oliver Williams, 72, a longtime Town of Washburn farmer, passed away Thursday,
August 7, following a long illness in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.
He was born on October 13, 1907, in Chicago to Arthur E. and Teckla (Wendell,)
Williams. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Clark County, where he
received his education. He then worked in Kenosha for a couple of years. After
returning to Clark County, he farmed in the Town of Washburn, marrying Hazel E.
Poler in October 19, 1935, Neillsville ceremonies. He retired from farming in
1974 due to failing health.
Surviving Williams, besides his wife, are three sons, Rodger of William Bay,
Wendell of Granton and Marvin of Turtle Lake, two daughters, Mrs. Nathon (Jean)
VandeBerg of Wis. Rapids and Mrs. Marvin (Sharron) Draves of Fond du Lac, one
sister, Mrs. Albert (Mildred) Zank, Chippewa Falls, and 17 grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one sister.
Funeral services were held on Monday early afternoon, August 11, from the
Neillsville United Methodist Church with the Rev. William Noble officiating, and
burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Gesche Funeral Home was in
charge of arrangements.
“Amazing Grace” and “How Great Thou Art” were the musical selections offered by
Cora Noble and Iris Musil.
Serving as pallbearers were Roger Ingold, Albert Smith, Walter Oldham, James
Musil, Walter Ollech and Jack Kluckhohn.
