Makkonen, Verna M. (20 May 1917 – 31 Jan 1977)
The Owen-Withee area was saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Oscar
(Verna May) Makkonen Jr. of Withee. Her death from an apparent heart attack
occurred on Monday, January 31, 1977 at about 4:20 p.m. in her home. Mrs.
Makkonen was 59.
Services are to be held on Thursday, February 3, 1977 at the Kraut-Maurina
Funeral Home in Owen at 1:00 p.m., with the Rev. Lloyd Yaggie officiating.
Burial services will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Withee.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 2, after 4:00 p.m. at the
Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home.
Mrs. Makkonen was born on May 20, 1917 in the town of Stanley, Wisconsin.
Formerly Verna Forman, she received her education in Neillsville.
On May 28 May, 1949 in Dubuque, Iowa, she married Oscar Makkonen Jr., and they
lived in the Owen-Withee area all their married life.
For the past few years Mrs. Makkonen has worked as the librarian for the Withee
Public Library.
She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. James (Susan) DeVito of
Harrison, Arkansas; one son, James, living at home, and one sister, Mrs. Pentha
(Theda) Puro of Owen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
