Hopfer, Sylvia Jean (4 June 1941 – 28 February 2022)
Sylvia Jean (Kuhn) Hopfer, 80, passed away peacefully Monday, February 28, 2022,
at the House of Dove at Marshfield after a long courageous battle of colon
cancer.
Sylvia was born June 4, 1941, to Bernard and Ruby (Rodman) Kuhn. She received
her elementary education at the Shortville School and graduated from Neillsville
High School in 1959. On April 15, 1967, Sylvia and Robert Hopfer was married.
She worked many years in the Neillsville and Milwaukee area as an LPN in nursing
homes. She enjoyed caring for people. Her pride and joy was her children and
grandchildren.
Sylvia’s lifetime hobbies included reading, stamp collecting, listening to Bob
Uecker broadcasting Brewer games and attending games, listening to Irish
singer-Daniel O’Donnell and polka music, being a seamstress and doing fine
needlework. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit
73-Neillsville, serving as Secretary and Treasurer for several years.
Sylvia was survived by her loving family, which includes her husband, Robert,
and children: Melissa (Tim) Paisley of Union Grove, William of West Bend,
Jennifer Goetzke of West Bend and Timothy (Debbie) of Milwaukee. Also survived
by her grandchildren: Laura, Adam, Jenna, James, Jessica, Emilie and Deven.
Sylvia’s surviving siblings included: Patricia Sorenson of Longmont, CO, James
(Becky) of Cashton, Judy (Paul) Groskreutz of Oshkosh, Ken (Eileen) of
Neillsville, Mildred Gumz of Neillsville, Wendell (Lin) of Neillsville, Edward
(Cheryl) of Neillsville, Diane (David) Froehlich of Wausau, Vickie Dux of
Marshfield, Lois (John) Garbisch of Granton, Mary Ellen (Duane) Bol of Baldwin,
and Virginia (Michael Schlecht) Kuhn of Minneapolis, MN. Also many nieces,
nephews, and cousins survived her.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents; sister Josephine (in infancy);
brothers Wayne (in infancy) and William; brothers-in-law; DeWayne Dux, Elwood
Hale and Thomas Sorenson.
Special thanks to Granton First Responders, Neillsville Ambulance, Dr. Leon and
his assistant Pat.
Interment of ashes will be early this summer at the Neillsville City Cemetery.
