Attorney Neal E. Schmidt, formerly of Colby, has been appointed Inheritance Tax
Counsel for the State Judiciary, Inheritance and Gift Tax Bureau.
The son of Mrs. Edna Schmidt, Colby, and the late Arthur Schmidt, his new duties
will include the formulation and development of legal programs to assure
consistent interpretation of inheritance tax statues; the preparation of legal
research and documents in connection with inheritance and gift tax matters;
county court appearances; assisting the attorney general in Supreme Court action
related to inheritance tax laws, and liaison with other divisions of the
department, other agencies, public administrators and representatives of
estates.
Schmidt is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he received a
Bachelor of Science degree in economics and a Law degree. He then became a
research attorney with the State Legislative Council, and joined the Wisconsin
department of Revenue in 1967, where he has worked since as an attorney in the
former Bureau of Inheritance Tax.
He, his wife, Alice, also an attorney, and their daughter, Tristen, live at 6014
Hammersley Road in Madison.
