Miss Brooks Rector, Neillsville, Clark County Home Economist since 1964, was the
guest of honor at a farewell party held Sunday in the Greenwood Electric
Auditorium. Miss Rector is moving to Waterloo, Iowa.
A large gathering of Clark County homemakers were present for the occasion. Mrs.
Melvin Appleyard, county homemakers’ president, mistress of ceremonies, gave a
short welcome address, and then introduced Mrs. Merlin Justman, Unity, county
vice president.
After a brief commentary, Mrs. Justman presented the program which began with
two original poems, “Vi’s Dilemma” by Mrs. Leo Miller, and “Friendships” by
Abbotsford-Spencer Chairman, Mrs. James Diedrich.
Mrs. Emil Luchterhand, accompanied by Mrs. Duane Neuman, sang “Brooks, We Shall
Miss You,” which was Mrs. Luchterhand’s original words to the tune of “Sweet
Betsy of Pike.” The entire group joined in for the second chorus.
Mrs. Appleyard introduced all the past county president who have served Clark
County under Miss Rector since 1964. They are Mrs. Francis Brey, Mrs. William
Pheisen, Mrs. Gilbert Loos, and Mrs. Ben Bowe, each of whom paid tribute to Miss
Rector.
Mrs. Norman Faber, Granton, presented her original song, “Beads of Love,” which
she sang in harmony with a pre-taped self-recording of her song. The Clark
County Homemakers chorus presented three selections “Simple Melody,” “One Song,”
and “Happy Wanderer.”
Mrs. Duane Olson and Mrs. Harry Johnson sang a duet of two songs, “Sing Me a
Rainbow” and “May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You”
Miss Rector accepted an engraved plaque, which was presented by past president,
Mrs. Gilbert Loos, as a gift from Clark County Homemakers, paying tribute to her
years of service.
She was also a recipient of a monetary rose bouquet, with each palisman ribbon
rose representing one year of service and the monetary foliage representing each
of the homemakers clubs in in Clark County. Miss Rector thanked the group and
gave a short resume of nostalgic memories of past years.
