Weix, Marzell J. (23 Jul 1901 – 2 Mar 1973)
Marzell J. Weix, 71, Dorchester, died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield at
1:30 p.m. Friday, March 2, 1973. He had been a patient there the past month, but
had been in ill health for the past six months.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Louis Catholic Church at
Dorchester, with the Rev. Jacob Burggraf officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s
Catholic Church Cemetery at Colby. Kraut-Maurina Funeral Home was in charge and
a parish Rosary was said there Sunday evening at 8 p.m. Pallbearers were:
Kenneth Marcott, Maurice Sorenson, Alvin Meyer, Elmer Genrich, Russell Miller
and Donald Pulver.
Mr. Weix was born July 23, 1901 in the town of Hull, Marathon County. He was a
graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a Degree in Pharmacy. He was
employed as a pharmacist in Wisconsin for five years, and came to Dorchester in
1927, when he purchased the Homstead Drug Store, which he operated for the past
45 years. He was married at Dorchester to Miss Vera Lapp on November 18, 1935.
She died October 11, 1971.
Mr. Weix was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church; a charter member of the
Dorchester Lion’s Club; he served on the village Board of Trustees for many
years; and was a member of the Wisconsin Pharmaceutical Drug Association.
His closest survivor is a brother-in-law, John Gries of Colby. He was preceded
in death by his sister, Mrs. Gries.
