Mathwick, Randal (Randy) James (30 January 1955 – 7 March 2022)
Randal (Randy) James Mathwick, 67, passed away March 7, 2022, after a courageous
18 month battle with cancer at Colonial Health and Rehab of Colby under the care
of hospice and his loving sister.
He was born January 30, 1955, in Wausau, to Harvey and Ethel (Doede) Mathwick,
the youngest of three boys and big brother to his sister Kay. Randy grew up in
Wausau, and graduated from Wausau West High School in 1973, during this time he
earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended UW Stout in Menomonie and earned a
Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel, Motel Restaurant Management. After an extensive
career in restaurants including manager and executive chef at the Northernaire
Resort in Three Lakes, and Tuscumbia Country Club & 680 North in Green Lake, he
later completed an Associate’s Degree in Civil Engineering/Structural Management
from Moraine Park Technical College in 1995 and obtained his certification in
land surveying. He went on to work for Saylor Land Surveying and was the
Director of Field Operations for the City of Duluth.
Randy was an avid Badger, Brewer and Packer fan, and enjoyed watching his teams
compete throughout the years. He was passionate about hunting and fishing and
looked forward to the annual deer hunt with family and friends at the Mathwick
Hunting 80 near Willard. Randy was rarely seen without his canine companion,
Maggie.
Randy is survived by his sister Kay (Jamie) Beck, Devils Lake, ND; niece
Madison; nephews Christian, Matthew and Cameron. Special friends Rick and Marcia
Zeigler and Todd Shirley. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey (2017)
and Ethel (1982), brothers Robert (2005) and Ronald (1991).
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 11 A.M. at Mt. Olive
Church, 6205 Alderson St, Weston, WI, with visitation one hour before the
service. Visitation will be Monday, March 14, 2022, from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M. at the
Brainard Funeral Home, 522 Adams St, Wausau, WI. Services will be livestreamed
on www.BrainardFuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to "the family of Randy Mathwick"
to be donated at later date to a charity of their choice.
