Peterson, John R. (10 October 1923 – 5 April 1981) With Flag
John R. Peterson, 57, of Beloit died on April 5, in a Beloit hospital. He was a
Neillsville native.
Peterson was born on October 10, 1923, to Arnold and Helen Peterson, who resided
on East Fifth Street in Neillsville. When he was six years old, he and his
family moved to Madison, returning to Neillsville a year later.
The deceased was a 1941 graduate of Neillsville High School and later from
UW-Madison. He served in the military during World War II, seeing action in the
Pacific. On September 11, 1948, he married Virginia Bryant in Madison
ceremonies. Peterson was an engineer with the Beloit Corporation for 27 years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church and the Quarter
Century Club of his company.
Surviving him, besides his wife, are two sons, James and Michael, both of
Beloit; two daughters, Judith of Seattle, Wa., and Mrs. John (Susan ) Schaomburg,
New Brighton, Mn.; a brother, Karl, Dayton, Oh.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 8, from a Beloit funeral home and
Peterson’s parish. Burial was made in Beloit.
