Apfelbeck, Carl (24 Oct 1890 – 15 Apr 1973)

A lifelong resident of the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Carl Apfelbeck, 82, died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, April 15, 1973 at the Colonial House of Colby, where he had resided since October of 1970.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby, with the Rev. Frank Rushman officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery. The Polnaszek Funeral Home, Abbotsford, was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Tom and Rand Boneske, Steve and Scott Weber, and Jim, Ron, Mike, Greg and Alan Apfelbeck.

Mr. Apfelbeck was born October 24, 1890 in the town of Hull. He received his education at Riverside School, and on June 27, 1918 married Margaret Ohlinger, at Colby. She died in 1956.

He spent his whole life farming in the town of Hull, and was an active member of the Farmers Union. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Colby.

Survivors include seven sons and seven daughters. They ae Leon, Visalia, California; Arnold, Tomahawk; Claude, Huber and Andrew, all of Abbotsford; Robert, Route 2, Mosinee, and Ray, Wausau; Mrs. Jack )Bernice) Tromley, Clearwater, Florida; Mrs. Clarence (Rosemary) Chris, Abbotsford; Mrs. Clyde (Lucille) Weber, Fox River Grove, Ill.,; Mrs. Duane (Helen) Leu, Abbotsford Mrs. Roy (Patricia) Boneske, Athens; Mrs. Dennis (Agnes) Weber, Antioch, Illinois; and Mrs. Dave (Dorothy) Kramas, Boyd.

Other survivors are two sisters, Mathilda Schraufnagel and Rose Thorn, both of Colby. A total of 63 grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.

Besides his wife, two children, four brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
