Beyer, Helen (88th - 1981)

The 88th birthday of Mrs. William F. Beyer was celebrated on April 17. The event was hosted by her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Mech at their Rt. 1 Neillsville home.

Another daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Horehled, arrived at the home after a two-week trip in time to join in the celebration. Mrs. Beyer was also visited by her brother, Carl Thoma, and many other friends and relatives. She also received many calls, cards, letters, flowers and gifts.

Before her marriage, the former Helen Thoma worked as a secretary to her father, W. C. Thoma, Clark County’s first highway commissioner and former mayor of Neillsville. In addition to her secretarial duties, she was an active farm wife. She also assisted her husband, who was for many years a Town of Pine Valley tax assessor and later the first manager of the Neillsville-Granton Farmers Union Cooperative, with bookkeeping.

Mrs. Beyer is an accomplished pianist and seamstress. Her other hobbies include reading and gardening.
