Jaster, Prof. Herbert, Celebrates 25 Years (1981)
Prof. Herbert Jaster, a former Neillsville resident, observed his 25th
anniversary of his installation and ordination into the ministry of the
Evangelical Lutheran Wisconsin synod on April 26.
The Jaster family moved to Neillsville in 1935 where his father, Arthur Jaster,
was employed by the Schiller Funeral Home and later by the Lowe Funeral Home
until in January of 1939 when he opened his own business. The Jaster family
moved from Neillsville after the death of Arthur Jaster in 1945.
Upon graduation from Northwestern College, Watertown, in 1952 and the Wisconsin
Lutheran Seminary, Mequon, in 1955, Prof. Jaster served the First Evangelical
Lutheran Church of La Crosse, where he was ordained. In 1958, Prof. Jaster and
his mother, Martha Jaster, moved to Doylestown, where he served three
congregations of the Tri-Parish.
In 1961, he received a call to teach history and religion at Dr. Martin Luther
College, New Ulm, Minnesota. When the school separated into two facilities,
Prof. Jaster became a member of the Martin Luther Academy faculty in 1963 and
has served as its secretary since that time.
In 1978, Wisconsin Synod Lutheran purchased the former Campion School of Prairie
du Chien and in 1979 Prof. Jaster and his mother moved to Prairie du Chien where
he continues to carry out his duties as librarian and professor.
The silver jubilee of his ordination was observed with a special service of
thanksgiving held in the school chapel in Prairie du Chien on Sunday evening,
April 26.
