Dr. Robert Bowen, a native of Curtiss, has been named Assistant Dean of a newly
created school of health, physical education, recreation and athletics at the
University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.
The new school of health, physical education, recreation and athletics is
enlarged by the addition of athletics, which in recent years reported to the
chancellor’s office. The significance of that move, in part, carries a new
policy for allocation physical education to persons who participate either in
men’s or women’s athletics and/or intramurals.
The new Assistant Dean has been on the university faculty since 1966, and has
served as chairman of the old health, physical education and recreation
department since august of 1972.
He is a native of Curtiss, graduated from Abbotsford High School and is the
holder of two degrees from the UW-Madison and a doctorate in health and safety
education from Indiana University in Bloomington. He taught on the high school
level in Milwaukee before going to Stevens Point. Besides his classroom and
administrative duties, he has served as the university’s gymnastics coach.
