Hales, Myrle & Joyce (50th Anniversary - 17 August 1983)
The children of Mr. and Mrs. Myrle G. (Joyce) Hales of Sun City West, Arizona,
formerly of Loyal, hosted the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of their
parents Saturday afternoon in the Fellowship Hall of Loyal United Methodist
Church.
A dinner for relatives and close friends was served followed by an open house.
The dinner was followed by reminiscing and a mock wedding.
The former Joyce Haeuser, daughter of Mr. and Mes. George (Alma) Haeuser, was
born August 11, 1915 in Arpin. In 1918 the family moved to Greenwood, where she
received her education, graduating from high school with the Class of 1932.
On August 17, 1933 she and Hales were married in Winona, Minnesota. Through the
years she has been active in the Order of Eastern Star, the Woman's Club and
United Methodist Church.
Her husband was born March 15, 1912 in Ocheyedan, Iowas, to Mr. and Mrs. Roy (Lesta)
Hales. He moved to Loyal in September 1917, helping on the family farm and
attending rural school, then Loyal High School from which he graduated in 1930.
On June 2, 1930 he began working at the Clark County Bank as janitor and
bookkeeper, also helping on the farm. The bank closed in 1932 during the
Depression.
From February 1934 to 1940 he was assistant secretary-treasurer of the
Production Credit Association in Neillsville, then returned to Loyal as
assistant cashier at the Granton Station of Citizens State bank.
In 1955 the family moved to Manawa, where he began as cashier and executive
officer, continuing in various offices until retiring in 1977 as president of
Farmers State Bank of Manawa. Since then the Hales have been living at 12838
Castlebar Drive in Sun City West.
Hales has been president of Group 6, Clark County Bankers Association, and as
president of Wisconsin Bankers Association. He was an organizer of Loyalty
Rotary and became a member of the Manawa Lions Club, holding offices in each. He
served in all orders of the Masonic Lodge and is a member of the Sun City Blue
Lodge, the Eau Claire Consistory and the Shriners Zor Temple in Madison.
He is an avid sports fan and enjoys fishing, golfing and traveling.
At Willowbrook United Methodist Church in Sun City, he is the finance chairman
and his wife is president of United Methodist Women.
They have three daughters, Mrs. Lester (Darlene) Wallschlager of Hartland, Mrs.
Walter (Nan Jean) Weihmuller of Warsaw, Indiana; and Mrs. Mary Jo Salone of San
Francisco. There are 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
