Roytek, Barney L. (18 May 1929 – 17 May 1978)

Barney L. Roytek, age 48, Curtiss, died at 10:20 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 1978 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Curtiss. Rev. Alan Minshall and Rev. Roger Tellock officiated, and burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery at Curtiss. Bruce Klocke was vocalist, accompanied by Mrs. Rhonda Buss. Maurina Funeral Home in Owen was in charge of arrangements.

Barney Leon Roytek was born May 18, 1929 at Thorp and attended Thorp area schools. He attended an auctioneer school in Austin, Minnesota, and had been an auctioneer since the age of 13. He married the former Donna Ackerman on September 24, 1954 at Neillsville.

He had operated the Fox Hill Tavern in the town of Mayville, then a tavern in Curtiss from 1955 – 1962. He farmed in the town of Mayville until 1971, when they moved to the village of Curtiss. He had been employed by Christensen Sales Company of Abbotsford until January. He was the village assessor for Curtiss and was a member of St. Paul’s Church.

Survivors are his wife; 2 daughters, Diane and Dawn at home; his mother, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Roytek of Owen.

He was preceded in death by his father; a son, John, and a daughter, Kathy.

Pallbearers were: Dale Thompson, Vic Borgemoen, Richard Carlson, David Koch, Ben Kenyon and Les Bowen.

Honorary Pallbearers were: Gen Wainscott, Ken Christensen, Leon Zielanis, Carl Jakel, Herman Klocke and John Wild.
