The Rev. Samuel S. Kochel of 302 E. Division St., Greenwood, came in November
1978 from Trinity Lutheran Church, Washington Island, Wisconsin, to be pastor of
Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Greenwood, and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Longwood.
Kochel was born November 19, 1942 in Freeport, Illinois. He attended Janesville
Senior High School, Janesville; St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, where
he received his B.A. degree; and Luther Theological Seminary, St. Paul,
Minnesota, where he attained his master of divinity degree. In August 1975 he
was ordained at Colo Park Lutheran Church, St. Paul, Minnesota. He is a member
of the Greenwood Lions Club and has just completed a term as club secretary. He
and his wife, Carolyn, have two sons, Michael and Jonathan. His hobbies are
hiking, square-dancing, stamp collecting, reading, fishing and cross-country
skiing. He served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps as missile maintenance
officer stationed in various U.S. posts, Germany and Vietnam. He also serves on
the Board of Directors of the Academy of Parish Clergy, an international
organization for the sharing of pastoral information and promotion of
collegiality and continuing education of parish pastors.
