Biochemists across the country have met on two separate occasions recently to
say “Goodbye and good luck” to Anne Terrio, Abbotsford native, about to retired,
after 43 years as secretary of the department of biochemistry at the University
of Wisconsin, Madison.
The first was April 17, 1973 during the meeting of the Federation of American
Societies for Experimental Biology in Atlantic City. The “Wisconsin Anne Terrio
Dinner” was held in Chalfonte-Haddon Hall, with the guest of honor resplendent
in a long red gown, greeting old friends from around the world.
On that occasion, Professor Carl Baumann, the only member of the current faculty
already there when Miss Terrio came, told the group:
“Contrary to what one might thing, the department had already been in existence
for some time. It is really necessary to point out, because hardly anyone can
imagine that ther could ever have been a Biochem department at Wisconsin without
Anne at the center.”
The second occasion, billed as “A Tribute to Our Fair Lady,” drew more than 200
friends and associates to a dinner in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union in
Madison.
