Mrs. Joe Clifford, Colby, recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C.,
where she attended the Twenty-Sixty Annual International Lily Show and
Convention of the North American Lily Society, Inc., held July 6-7-8 at the U.S.
National Arboretum and the Sheraton Motor Inn.
Mrs. Joe Clifford was appointed executive secretary of the society. She is a
member of the Blue Sky Garden Club of Colby, the Wisconsin Valley District of
Garden Club, the Wisconsin Garden Club Federation, the North Star Regional Lily
Society, the American Horticultural Society, the American Penstemon Society, the
National Wildlife Federation, and the North American Lily Society, Inc.
There were 109 registrants for the three-day event. The Potomac Lily Society was
host to the visiting members, who came from many different parts of the United
States and Canada. There were busy business and education meetings, garden
tours, the viewing of a fabulous lily show held at the facilities of the U.S.
National Arboretum and a banquet Saturday night, with Dr. John Creech, Director
of the U.S. National Arboretum as guest speaker. There were gorgeous lilies
everywhere. Mrs. Joe Clifford took two lily specimen entries for the show. Her
“Sunbright” yellow Asiatic took a blue ribbon, and her other Asiatic lily,
“Sonata”, took honorable mention.
