CHILI -- Esther Circle of United Methodist of Women of Immanuel United Methodist
Church, Chili, held its election meeting Wednesday at the Church, the Rev. Frank
R. Heinbaugh in Charge. Elected were:
Virginia Nelson, president; Dorothy Haslow, vice-president; Jeanette Foemmel,
secretary; Elda Happe, treasurer; Edith Schilling, secretary of program
resources and Membership Committee; Viola Meissner, Christian Personhood
Committee; Mae Ott, Christian Global Concerns; Marie Smith, Christian Social
Involvement; Mildred Lee and Dorothy Haslow, Local Supportive Community; Debbie
Kayhart, Jessie Spry and Rhonda Foemmel, Nomination Committee; and Delores
Peterson, Sunshine Committee.
Jessie Spry was lesson leader, opening with singing of "Where Cross the Crowded
Ways." Her lesson theme was "Refugees" Talking about refugees in the Bible and
giving facts about today's Refugees. She said most of the refugees in the United
States are Vietnamese, Cuban, Haitian and Mexican. The leader used excerpts from
the book "No Place Left Called Home" and the article, "Refugees at the Gates,"
from Response magazine. She closed with a poem by Helen Steiner Rice.
Mrs. Virginia Nelson, president, conducted the business meeting attended by 19
members and two visitors.
