Slaats, Jane (Sec’y WNA - 1981)
Jane Slaats, co-publisher of the Clark County Press, was elected secretary of
the Wisconsin Newspaper Association (WNA) at that group’s annual meeting held
June 4-6 in La Crosse.
Jane is the female officer of the WNA board, which represents all weekly and
daily newspapers in the state.
Also elected at the confab was Kenneth Blanchard, published of the La Crosse
Tribune, who was chosen president of WNA. Other officers include Robert
Berglund, editor and publisher of the Loyal Tribune-Record-Gleaner: Russ Sprung,
publisher of the Oshkosh Northwestern; and Henry Schroeder of Verona and
publisher of a number of weekly papers in the Madison-suburban area. Also
elected was a new treasurer for the organization, James Bruce, publisher of the
Monroe Evening Times.
Jane and her husband co-publish The Press. Besides overseeing the management of
the newspaper, he heads the editorial department while she coordinates the
advertising department. The couple have been in Neillsville nine years, the
first five working for Robert Harvey, Jane’s father. Four years ago, the couple
purchased the newspaper.
