Cadet Larry W. Schmidt, son of Mr. and Mrs. George A. Schmidt, Route 1, Colby,
attended the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps Basic summer camp at Ft.
Knox, Kentucky, from June 22 through August 2, 1973.
Cadet Schmidt, a student at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, was one of
some 7,200 students who attended Army ROTC Training at five installations in the
United States.
Students attending the six-week camp are preparing themselves to enter the Army
ROTC program when they return to college this fall. The two-year program is
designed specifically for junior college graduates, transfer students and other
who were unable to take ROTC during their first two years of college.
During the camp, the future cadets receive instruction and troop leadership
experience which emphasize the development of confidence and the ability to make
decisions in a challenging environment.
Students who successfully complete the training and are accepted for the two
year program are enrolled in the advanced course at their school and receive the
same instruction benefits as do other cadets in the final two years of the
regular for year program.
