On September 6 and 7, 1973, Martin Haavisto, senior high guidance counselor at
Colby High School, attended a seminar held at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul,
Illinois.
Haavsito was one of fifteen educator from western Wisconsin invited to tour the
facilities at Chanute. The purpose of the tour-seminar was to acquaint the
educators with the Chanute technical training programs.
Chanute is organized into five major departments of instruction. These are: (1)
The Department of Aircraft Maintenance Training; (2) The Department of Missile
Training; (3) The Department of Missile Specialist Training; (4) The Department
of Weapon Systems Support Training; (5) The Department of Weather Training.
