Scherf, Emma (19 December 1907 - 17 September 1983)
Emma Scherf, 75 , of Withee, died Saturday in St. Joseph's Hospital of injuries
suffered in a Labor Day accident in the Taylor County Town of Little Black. Mrs.
Scherf had been hospitalized since the September 5 accident which also took the
life of her passenger Esther E. Fredrick.
Services will be Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church with burial in Riverside
Cemetery, both in Withee. The Rev. Peter Thomsen will officiate. Visitation will
be at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen with a Eastern Star service.
The former Emma Remly was born December 19, 1907 in Luck. She graduated from
River Falls State Teachers College and was a science instructor at Withee High
School from 1929-34.
She was married to Sabin Scherf April 14, 1934 in Milltown. After their marriage
they farmed in the Town of Longwood until 1959. In 1977 they moved to Withee.
Her husband died July 3.
She was a member of the Owen American Legion Auxiliary; the Withee Garden Club;
Nazareth Lutheran Church; and the Owen Eastern Star of which she served as
worthy matron in 1966.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Emma Louise Heins of Sacramento,
California and Mrs. Natlie Ann Shelton of Chicago; three sons, Louis of
Harriman, Tennessee and twins, Frank W. and Thomas E. both of East Moline,
Illinois; four brothers, John, Edward, and William Remly, all of Luck and Frank
of Williams, California; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Frandsen of Luck and Mrs.
Magdeline BanPelt of Siren; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and
several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was also predeceased by two grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers will be Jens Miller, Carl Vater, Arnold Rasmusen, Dine Rinehart,
Earl Jensen and Frank Olszewski.
