Mertens, Helen (10 July 1943 - 27 September 1983)
THORP -- Mrs. Francis (Helen) Mertens, 40, Route 2, Thorp, died Tuesday at St.
Joseph's Hospital, where she was admitted Monday.
Services will be Saturday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thorp. The Rev.
Michael Mertens of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Greenwood, will officiate. Burial
will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at the Thorp Funeral Home.
The former Helen Howe was born July 10, 1943 in Fairchild, to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil
(Phyllis Butts) Howe. She was married to Francis Mertens may 26, 1962 in Gilman
and she farmed at Route 2, Thorp, with her husband.
Survivors include her husband; five sons and a daughter, all at home, Francis
Jr., Mark, Doug, Todd, Joseph and Rebecca; her mother Mrs. Phyllis Howe of
Gilman; three brothers, David and Elmer of Gilman, and Robert of Minneapolis;
and two sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Hudak of Stanley and Lottie Howe of Gilman.
