Petersen, Martha (4 Aug 1897 – 11 Mar 1978)
A former Owen-Withee resident, Mrs. Martha Petersen, 80, died Saturday at the
Skokie Valley Hospital in Chicago.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Maurina Funeral Home in Owen.
The Rev. Lloyd Yaggie, pastor of Nazareth Lutheran Church, officiated. Burial
was made in the Riverside Cemetery, Withee.
The former Martha Nielsen was born August 4, 1897 in the country of Denmark. She
was married to Bennett Petersen, who died in 1950.
She came to Withee when she was 24 and she and her husband farmed until his
death, when she moved to Chicago to live with her daughter. She was a member of
St. James Lutheran Church in Chicago.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Marion) Christensen, Norridge,
Illinois, and Miss Elsie Petersen of Chicago; two sons, Hans of Mundelein,
Illinois, and James of Roselle, Illinois; six brothers, Hans of Palos Heights,
Illinois, Walter of Chicago, Svend of Seattle, Washington, Knud of Rice Lake,
and Johannes and Alfred, both of the country of Denmark; two sisters, Christine
and Ane, also of Denmark; and 15 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister.
