John Mertens received a $300 “Good Citizen Scholarship” from the Melvin
Companies of Abbotsford presented by Mr. M. P. McMillan. John is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. Gene Mertens of Withee, Wisconsin, and he is a 1977 graduate of
Owen-Withee High School, now attending the Milwaukee School of Engineering,
majoring in Electrical Engineering.
The intent of the Melvin Companies Scholarship is to promote Good Citizenship.
It is provided on a rotating basis among high school in communities served by
the Melvin Companies. The scholarship is given with greatest respect to the
memory of Mr. Francis Melvin, founder of the Melvin Companies.
