Gereau, Mr./Mrs. Henry (65th – 25 Jun 1978)
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gereau of Maplehurst Township, Taylor County, had their 65th
Wedding Anniversary on June 25, 1978 and received a special message from
President and First Lady Carter in honor of the occasion. The message read:
“On the occasion of your wedding anniversary, we send you our heartfelt
congratulations. May you continue to enjoy the fullest blessing of health and
happiness together,” and it was signed by Jimmy Carter and Rosalyn Carter.
Upon receipt of the letter with the Washington, D.C. address, one of the
Gereau’s sons said, What did you do now to have a letter from the government?”
Married on June 25, 1913 during the administration of President Woodrow Wilson,
the Gereau’s, Henry age 91, and his wife Anna, age 87, have seen 12 presidents
during their years of marriage.
They moved into Maplehurst Township in 1917, and have farmed and lived here ever
since.
A potluck lunch and Sunday School picnic will be combined to celebrate their
wedding anniversary sometime in the near future. No party or celebration was
held in honor at this time.
