Red's Bar in Abbotsford, owned and operated by Joe and Rosina Andreshak for the
past 14 years, is sporting a new owner as the new year begins.
Gale Schraufnagel and his bride of December 1, 1973, the former Kris Meyer of
Medford, have purchased the bar from the Andreshaks and took over operation on
January 1, 1974. They plan to move into the upstairs apartment soon.
Schrauf's Pub is the name chosen for the bar, which will be open from 10 a.m.
until closing time.
Donald Kisser, employed by Joe Andreshak as a bartender for 13 years, will
continue to help the Schraufnagels.
Joe and Rosina Andreshak purchase the bar, the former Hitching Post, from Mrs.
Minnie Kalepp in 1959. They came to Abbotsford from Wausau, where they had
operated Joe's Bar (there were already four bars knowns as Red's Bar), and
served plate lunches for six and one-half years. Prior to that, they had
operated Red's Bar in Athens for approximately six years. Their retirement marks
the end of a twenty-six and one-half year career spent serving the public.
The Andreshaks have moved into the new home they built last summer on Hickory
Street in Abbotsford. They had planned to do some traveling when they retired,
but with the gas shortage making travel uncertain, Andreshak is going to buy a
shovel and snow blower and will occupy his time clearing sidewalks and driveways
for the duration of winter, hoping travel plans materialized in the spring.
