Cook, Sewell A. (14 Feb 1907 – 12 Jan 1974)
Sewell Alfred Cook, 66, former Unity resident, died January 12, 1974 at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Memorial service will be held
Saturday, January 19 at 1 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Medford, with
pastor Rev. Henry Bahrenburg officiating. Those desiring to offer memorial gifts
are encouraged by the family to give money, which will be shared by the American
Bible Society and Diabetes Research.
Mr. Cook was born at Unity on February 14, 1907, son of George S. and Linda Ann
Cook. He was married to Marlea Thayer on August 2, 1928. For several years after
their marriage they lived on the home farm, one mile east of Unity, where he did
part-time farming in addition to his highway responsibilities. He was an
engineer with the Wisconsin State Highway Commission from 1926 to 1967, working
with the Wisconsin rapids office. They lived in Wisconsin Rapids for many years,
until his retirement in late 1967, when they moved to their summer home at
Sackett Lake, northwest of Medford. While at Unity, he served on the village
board for many years.
He is survived by his wife, and two sons, Dr. Robert Cook, Green Bay, and Prof.
Ray Cook, Waukesha; five grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Vera (Burnett)
Mabbott, Unity, Mrs. Merle (Lee) Holmes, Mrs. Ferne (Raymond) Fleming and Mrs.
Shirley (Everett) Capes, all of Marshfield, and Mrs. Fae (Russell) Andrews,
Spencer, and a brother, Calvin E. Cook, Wausau.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother, Delbert, and a sister,
Audrey.
