Beatrice Foods Company, one of the leading food companies in the United States,
has purchased the Dorchester Cheese Company, Inc., and has taken over
possession.
Clifford Wetterau, president of Dorchester Cheese Company, who made the
announcement, will remain as manager of the new company’s plant here. The local
plant will be served by the same field men and truckers, however, no cheese will
be made here; milk will be assembled for delivery from the local plant.
Wetterau became associated with his father-in-law, Fred Reynolds, at the former
Bruckerville Cheese Factory in the Town of Holton, in 1947. Reynolds had been in
the cheese business for over 60 years. In 1953 they bought the Dorchester Cheese
Factory and have manufactured cheese since that time. Jerome Reynolds, town of
Holton, a son of Fred, also has assisted in the operation of the factory since
starting in Dorchester.
Beatrice Foods has diversified operations in this country and overseas.
