DeCaire, Carol J. (9 December 1934 – 13 June 2022)

Carol J. DeCaire, age 87, of Owen, passed away surrounded by her loving family on June 13, 2022, in her home under the tender care of Hope Hospice.

Carol was born on December 9, 1934, the daughter of Nicholas and Irene (Leonhard) Steffes in Unity. She graduated from Owen High School in 1953. Carol was united in marriage to Robert “Bryce” DeCaire on June 25, 1955, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. She worked at the Singer Sewing Company, Allis Chalmers and Clark County Health Care Center.

Carol was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Sunshine Club, volunteered at Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center and the Abbotsford Nursing Home after retirement. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, knitting, sewing, canning and baking.

Carol is survived her husband of 67 years, Bob “Bryce”; three children: Deborah (Robert) Kaczmarek of Wind Lake, Robert (Amy) DeCaire, Jr. of Medford and Rodney (Kathy) DeCaire of Owen; ten grandchildren: Nicholas (Tammie) Gerard, Christopher (Anna) Gerard, Amber (Ryan) Morris, Kyle Kaczmarek, Megan (Paul) Luce, Brandon DeCaire, Karisa (Andrew) Vu, Joel DeCaire (MacKenzie), Amanda (Ben) Denk and Stephanie (Will) DeCaire; 12 great-grandchildren: Natalie, Tyler, Nolan, Hunter and Parker Gerard, Connor, Ashton and Vittoria Morris, Rylan, Alayna and Theodore Vu and Aubrianna Denk. She is further survived by her sister and best friend, Sharon (Jim) Laru of Owen and a brother, Richard (Sue) Steffes of NC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; five grandchildren: Morgan and Gage Gerard; Dylan DeCaire; Adam and Aaron DeCaire; two brothers: Robert and Roger Steffes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Owen. Father Timothy Oudenhoven will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of service on Friday at the church.
