Alvin Meyer, Dorchester, was honored for his development of the Highland
addition residential area to the village of Dorchester by the Dorchester Lion's
Club.
Lion Governor Johns C. Plumb, Wausau, was speaker for the evening and presented
Myer with a plaque inscribed with: "In honor and with deep appreciation for the
distinguished leadership in creating the Highland addition as a residential area
in the village of Dorchester."
Meyer purchased a controversial piece of property on the north edge of the
village in 1966 and tore down exiting buildings to create a residential area.
Since that time the Highland addition has deeded a first and second addition,
and now has 16 homes and four duplexes, providing housing for 34 families, with
14 families moving into the area in the summer and fall of 1973. Total valuation
of the addition is in excess of $520,000.
