Bender, George G. (29 Dec 1893 – 25 Mar 1974)
George G. Bender, 80, former Abbotsford resident, died Monday, March 25, 1974 at
the Clark County Hospital at Owen, where he had been residing.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at the Abbotsford Funeral Home at
1:30 p.m., with Rev. Kenneth Loehrke officiating. Burial will be made in Colby
Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Bender was born in Richland County, Wisconsin on December 29, 1893,
receiving his education in Richland Center schools. He was married to the former
Emma Guse at Baraboo on August 19, 1916. She preceded him in death in 1953. The
couple farmed in the town of Frankfort until 1934, farmed in the Athens area,
then moved to Abbotsford, where Mr. Bender operated a grocery store on North
Third Street, and also worked for the Abbotsford Hardware. He had been residing
in nursing home for the past five years.
Survivors include two sons, Henry of Neillsville and Melvin of Mosinee; three
daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Florence) Denzine of Medford, Mrs. Eldred (Avenelle)
Empey of Rib Lake, and Mrs. Virginia Koehn of Florida; 25 grandchildren and 22
great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, two brothers and a sister.
