Donald Hasselberger, 32, and his wife, Patricia, 32, died as a result of
injuries sustained in a one-car accident Sunday, May 19, 1974 at about 9:20 p.m.
on County Trunk N, three-fourths of a mile east of Highway 13 in Colby.
The driver of the 1968 Oldsmobile station wagon was Donald Hasselberger. He and
his wife were westbound, traveling at an apparent high rate of speed, when the
driver lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over at least three times, both
the driver and his passenger being thrown from the vehicle.
Funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Hasselberger were held at St. Mary’s Catholic
Church, Colby, at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, the Rev. Francis Rushman
officiating. Interment was in the Hillside Cemetery at Marshfield.
Lulloff Funeral Home, Colby, was in charge of arrangements. A rosary was said
Tuesday evening at 8:15 at the Funeral Home.
Donald E. Hasselberger, 32, was born in the town of Marshfield, on March 3,
1942. He received his education in the town of Marshfield schools.
Patricia Chesmore Hasselberger was born March 14, 1941 at Pittsville.
He was married to the former Patricia Chesmore on October 30, 1959 at St. John’s
Catholic Church at Marshfield. After their marriage the couple lived in
Milwaukee for a time, after which they lived in Kenosha and Marshfield, moving
to Colby in 1972 in 1972, where they purchased the Northside Tavern on Highway
13 on the north edge of Colby.
Surviving are three children, Julie, 14, Dean, 12, and Donald, 9, all at home;
for him, three brothers, Roman, Milwaukee, Jim, Lancey, Illinois, and Alvin
Chicago; Eight sisters, Mr. Bob (Shirley) Arndt, Red Wing, Minnesota, Mrs.
Donald (Evelyn) Durst, Milwaukee, Mrs. Harry )Isabelle) Durst, Eau Claire, Mrs.
Bill (Barbara) Koettah, Mrs. Monica Vallas and Mrs. Gladys Hasselberger, all of
Chicago, Miss Alicia Hasselberger, Milwaukee, and Mrs. Willard (Mary) Ohlrich,
Spencer, and his father, William Hasselberger.
Surviving for her , besides the three children, are three brothers, Gerald
Chesmore, Marshfield, Oliver Chesmore, Stratford, and Danny Chesmore, Wisconsin
Rapids; four sisters, Mrs. Edmond (Margaret) Zachernetz, Black River Falls, Mrs.
James Schallock, Stratford, Kathleen Chesmore, Marshfield, and Mrs. Beatrice
Wheller, Plainfield; a sstep-brothers, James Nehring, Nekoosa; three
step-sisters, Mrs. Mrs. Gary (Rose) Peterson, Marshfield, Mrs. Ronald (Sandy)
Peterson, Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Dean (Wanda) Blackborn, Baraboo, and her
mother, Mrs. Walter (Margaret) Nehring, Nekoosa.
