Burt Bauer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schauer, Rt. 1, Abbotsford, is one of
eleven cadets at the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point ROTC Program to earn
the privilege of wearing the Black Beret.
To qualify for the Black Beret organization the cadets must first be members of
the Pershing Rifles Precision Drill organization. Following their pledging
period they begin additional training required for the specialized unit. This
training includes instruction in first aid, radio and telephone procedures,
patrolling, rappelling and rope bridging, cross country navigation, map reading,
escap and evasion, and survival.
Burt is presently a freshman majoring in wildlife management. He was the
recipient of a four year Army ROTC scholarship, which provides full tuition,
books and fees, plus $100 a month subsistence allowance for ten months each
school year. Upon graduation he will receive a commission in the U.S. Army.
